Over the past two years, I've been working on a "novel" (I put "novel" in quotes intentionally because it feels like all I've managed to do is word vomit thousands of random words). I know that I've built up a collection of scenes, glimpses into the life of a character named Mira. Other than her name, everything else changes. Some days she's a thief with untapped magical powers, other days she's an immortal world-weary bookseller, or she's a brown girl from New York City trying to navigate love, trauma, and a magical destiny. And that only covers three of the many paths I’ve come up with. Lately, I've been re-reading them and it feels like I'm on the cusp of something. It's like this itch at the back of my mind. There's something just out of view, and every time I turn my head to try and find it, it slips away.
I'm not as eloquent as your other commentators but I love the feel of that extract. I'd like to read more.
I second the power of the sensory details. And now I want more. 😃 Yay for brave things!
What a small but mighty scene! I was really pulled into the sensory details and was left wanting more!
Yay for a strong start! Very excited to see where this experiment leads.
